I went and did some apnea walks at the park just to get a feeling for them. I did not have too much time to spend at the park today so I did a 20minute warmup and only 3 walks with a 1' hold static.
I did a combined time of 2:15 on the first, and walked about 50m. 2:28 combined on the second, and walked about 60m Third, I did a time of 2:33 and walked about 65m. I had about 10-15 contractions on each walk. Am I doing these correctly? Should I mix around times a bit? Like do 2minute statics then walk on one day, and then maybe 30second hold and walk another day? How many walks should I try for in one session?

What kind of a 20min warm-up?
For apnea walks I'd say 'just do it'. No warm-up. They will probably be harder and shorter, BUT, that would mean more CO2 (and probably more contractions), so there you have it. This is what they are meant for, hypercapnia exposure. Just breath normally, take your last breath, start walking till you can't (CO2-wise, not till you crash). Stop, breath (uncontrolled!) for 1-1:30, repeat. How many? enough to get a training effect and not enough to stress yourself. Less than 10 maybe. |
