Whatup?, Whatdown?

Just curious

Is their a set formula for time down and time up?

I've noticed at 30-40 feet I stay down longer if I'm up at least 2 min (not by a whole lot but a little bit more)., 40'+ 3min. minimum yet anything shallower than 30' I can go up gulp and go down without much of a difference in my down time.

Re: Whatup?, Whatdown?

No set formula, but basically, the longer you stay down and the harder you work while down, the longer the surface interval. Of course, the deeper you go the more work to get back up. It takes about 4 minutes or so to fully recover from a fairly deep, moderately hard dive, more if you are really stretching. For me, 60 or less, 3+ minutes is about right. 90-100 4-5 minutes feels good. Much deeper than 100, longer. You will find that extending your surface interval will very likely extend the time you can dive.

Use the search function to find lots more info on this subject.

Re: Whatup?, Whatdown?

I nearly doubled my times when I started paying attention to surface intervals - also remaining completely motionless and deeply relaxed during breatheups.
