Re: spearing for bluegill?

Sobering story, Jon.

Testimony to the savagery of the blue gill.

I think that there needs to be some accountability in the government and fish and game departments for the shocking cover-up of a lethal menace in our streams and ponds.

I mean, to be reduced to throwing spoons and bugs at them just to survive..... how hard would it be to put a warning in the fishing regulations?
Did Jon need to suffer this tragedy?

Oh, the humanity!!!!

Mini tubes or mini jigs work really well when a little piece of worm is on the end of the hook. http://www.barlowstackle.com/barlows...rms/531145.jpg

Re: spearing for bluegill?

It was pretty painful Lungfish, but I got over it with lots of physical therapy and, more than a few, visits to the pyschiatrist.

I've heard of local scuba divers using ice fishing poles to fish for game fish around here- which are all illegal to spear. By using a short pole/line they were able to dangle the bait right in front of whatever they were hunting for.

Actually, I've found that dangling a something shiney in front of my prey gets lots of nipple attention.

Re: spearing for bluegill?

A good friend of mine was badly nudged by a Carp when we were kids. She still has..well...issues.

Go ahead and make light of the bluegill menace - here in the great lakes it is something many of us have reason <sniff> not to talk about <wracking, heaving sobs> You saltwater people think you've seen it all.

As for scuba divers - well, they get up to all sorts of odd doings. Heres one from last weekend.

Re: spearing for bluegill?

Man, now I am having flashbacks to when I was a little kid swimming in the irrigation pond. I was happy, playing and splashing. All of the sudden I found myself in a horrible staredown with several hundred hungry tadpoles.... and at least three water beetles.

Breath in, breath out, find my happy place......

Why do grown ups say they aren't any monsters? They only come at night......, mostly.....

Mustn't sleep, no, no, no.....

I'll take salt water swimming any day over that.....
