I was just reading Eric Fattah's account of his deep free dive, and he mentions doing a "Pack Stretch", and "packing 43 times" before a dive. I have been doing a bit of freediving in my spare time for a while, and I was wondering what "packing" is? Is it a spcial technique?
Thanks for your help!! Terry |

Don't quote me on this, but I think "pack stretching" refers to putting extra air in your lungs using your cheek muscles to force the air down, even after you can't inhale anymore. The uncomfortable extra volume of air goes away once you descend 15 feet or so. I usually pack in a couple breaths if I'm anticipating a deep dive, but most of the time I just inhale and go. If you pack air every dive, your ribcage will be sore by the end of the day from being stretched out, so it must do something.
