Is cyanosis of the lips always a sign of trouble?

I was doing some statics in the pool today, and felt really good about it too. Unfortunately, after a breath-hold that was far from my personal best, my buddy said that my lips are blue. Otherwise I felt so good that I might have even gone for a pb, but I decided to be careful and not push it.
This has happened before when I have been doing warm-ups with empty lungs, but I don't remember it happening on an easy breath-hold with full lungs.

Are blue lips a sign of impending samba or blackout, or could there be another reason for this?

I'm not sure, but my buddy has just told me that I look pale with blue lips after almost EVERY static. However, my times are improving fast, so I'll carry on despite this. Apart from this, I usually look fine.

I hope someone can answer this in more detail.

basically... no.
one tip i recently heard (from a diving doctor) is that tongue colour is a better gauge of hypoxia. if the freedivers sticks his tongue out and that's also blue, then he really is low on O2.
