Question Prunes

This was the press release from Herbert's no-limits dive. I have a few questions to ask.

"On Sunday, October 2th Austrian Herbert Nitsch (35), in the Croatian town of Sibenik, set a new absolute world record in freediving to 172m in the discipline of No Limits. (...) The depth of 172m (18 bars), which is 9 times the pressure within a car tyre. The lung of a freediver is being compressed to the size of prune. This record was recognised by AIDA and is now the official AIDA World Record for No Limits."

1 Are the prunes fresh or dried?
2 if: freediver lung x 9 times car tire pressure = prune
does it then follow that prune divided by 9 times car pressure equals freediver lung? Has this been tried, or is it just speculation?
3 Is this some new equalisation technique involving prunes?
4 What are AIDA regulation size prunes?

Cheers, turtle

Re: Prunes

what a startling observation!

and how big are the aida prunes to accomodate 1.5 litres of blood from the bloodshift? or were we fooled all along??

also, can people who write press releases be subject to doping tests?

hmmm...this just makes me wonder

Re: Prunes

Please be realistic, they were talking about genetically modified prunes...

Re: Prunes

It's part of the new surface protocol. Upon surfacing, the athlete is given a bowl of prunes and has to select a prune that corresponds to the size of his/her lungs during the dive, taking into account their initial lung volume, depth and amount of packing. The best performance is the one with the most accurately chosen dried fruit. Any athlete who starts eating the prunes, or blacks out with their face in the bowl of prunes, is disqualified.

Re: Prunes

Just my observation, but i'm pretty sure eating prunes and apnea should never be friends.....

Re: Prunes

If my lungs will be prunes at 172M, then will my lungs be plums at about 140M???

What is the size of the brain of the person who came up with this analogy?

Could it be the size of a raisin?
