Vitamin D Linked to Better Lung Function

Reading teletext the other day about a report for vitamin D and lung improvement, so did a search and came up with this site http://www.medpagetoday.com/PrimaryCare/Smoking/tb/2326 also a lot of others sites repeating the advantages of vitamin D for lungs.
What is known about vitamin D in freediving ?
