Heard on the radio today the amazing claim that beetroot aids oxygen take up by 400% (400% of what Im not sure) Anyone any claims on the benefits of Beetroot for freediving .....?

Sara,
You are supposed to cook the beetroot whole, without cutting the roots or top, that way all the color doesn't spread. Once cooked it peels very easy. Shane isn't a guarro, he's just a poor boy without any experience.

Beetroot in a fridge makes everything taste like beetroot.
Same in a sandwich.

This beetroot sounds like a wonder drug! And I thought it was only another root vegetable...
 I think I'll skip the beetroot experience, whatever that is...  Lucia
