Mumbling after a Dive?

a couple years ago after a particularly deep&long Aspetto (90ft just under 3min total dive time) I surfaced and tried to tell a dive partner about the large fish I saw and it all came out garbled. very simmilar to anyone who's been Ice divign a little to long. like I had marbles in my mouth. the sensation lasted a few seconds then went away. I assumed it was a bad thing and wrote it off as pushing my limits to far again.

Was having a good laugh about it with the partner the night (he called me "Corky" for the rest of the trip) and relized I would really like to know more about this occurance.

thoughts?

Sounds like an LMC to me!

Some stories about funny post-dive behaviour here...

Re: Mumbling after a Dive?

So a Samba isn;t just a loss of muscular control? I don;t remember shaking, just the garblygook that came out when I tried to talk.

Re: Mumbling after a Dive?

It can be a loss of muscle control at different levels and progressive: speech seems to go before other muscle groups as far as I've seen or experienced. I've seen guys DQ'd at competition based on the slightest head or hand wobble.
Peace,
Erik Y.

Re: Mumbling after a Dive?

"Samba" can show up as a pretty wide range of symptoms. The only kind I've experianced have been visual, tunnel vision and loss of color vision. Could be your experiance resulted from LMC of the speech muscles or low oxy to the speech centers of the brain. Never heard of a speech LMC, but don't see any reason why it couldn't happen.
