Thumbs up Wellington (NZ) Winter Champs

I have just participated in my 1st ever competition on the 9th & 10th June here in Wellington NZ for the Winter Champs. What an awesome weekend and i am quite proud of my own achievements considering there were a few nerves in my system. DYF 71m - DNF 33m - Statics 3.19 - A great big congrats goes out to kman for being the overall winner of the event and for the continuing encouragement and support i receive (goes both ways). Everybody in the comp did really well (congrats to everyone) and i must say i am proud to be part of such an awesome team of people and to belong to a very well organized club that delivers support, encouragement and ongoing advise to all members new and old in our training regimes. A big thanks to Fran & Tracey for all the advise received leading up to the comp and at the event and to Carl the safety guy even though the camera in my face made me nervous. Thanks to Jude for the lovely homemade lunch put on afterwards. Overall i had an amazing time and I'm looking forward to the next one.

I would like to express a huge GOOD LUCK to Kathryn representing NZ for the World Champs in Maribor in July

Re: Wellington (NZ) Winter Champs

Well done! First comps are always a bit nervy.

So NZ is sending a full team to Maribor? Looks like we might be able to fire up Team Anzac after all!

Cheerio,
Ben

Re: Wellington (NZ) Winter Champs

Yeah, it was a fun comp (despite personally stuffing up my weighting for dynamics disciplines and having a BO in statics). Keiran really nailed his performances and some of the new faces, Aquagirl included, did really really well.

Might be some miscommunication re our involvement in Maribor. While NZ could put together a very strong female and male team (and hopefully this will actualise for the next team WC) the only NZ based kiwi going to Maribor that I am aware of is Kathryn McPhee, our queen of nofins. Go Kathryn!

Very hard from this side of the world managing funding and time committments, particularly when pool and depth comps are split.

That's definitely one of the bonuses of living over here for a bit - it doesn't completely break the bank to compete around Europe and London is only a couple of hours away from most of Europe (and the power of the pound is mightily persuasive!).

There are so many New Zealanders living in London, i'm surprised there aren't any freedivers amongst them. Then again, there's only 2 or 3 Aussie freedivers here.

Re: Wellington (NZ) Winter Champs

Even if there were NZ freedivers living there BennyB you & Andy would try to claim them as Aussies wouldn't you
Marcus Thompson who was in the NZ team for Canada lives there somewhere - he's the crazy cyclist causing havoc.

Just spent the evening with Dave Mullins fresh off the plane from Egypt. What a pleasure. Loved watching the footage on the big screen.

Re: Wellington (NZ) Winter Champs

Of course we would! But you know you can have Russell Crowe back whenever you want him

I'm curious about Guy's 31 points of penalties - you said you stuffed your weighting up so was that all from surface violations? What a buggar.

I'll take Russell Crowe back anytime

Guy breeched the surface 6 times and also left early hence the penalties.

Re: Wellington (NZ) Winter Champs

I checked the results and I saw Kathryn gaving 2 BOs during the same competion, I certainly hope she'll do much better at the WC. And by the way, what is "scratched" in this case?

Re: Wellington (NZ) Winter Champs

Should read DNC - did not complete dive. Because she suffered blackout that morning it was decided she was not to dive that afternoon for safety/health reasons.
