haven't heard that before. complaints i hear (many!) are mostly about shitty hardware (lost buttons, stuck depth sensor, etc) and resulting long replacement times. but if my surface time is "graphically recreated" then all is good, i guess :-)

Re: [News] Suunto Unveils New D4 Freediving Watch

I sent Suunto loads of feedback on the D6 and D9's problems for freediving, hope some of that has gone into the D4

Does anyone know what is shows you during the surface interval? This is my main gripe with the D6 and D9 (which don't show you how deep your previous dive was, just your "no fly" time which is a load of b*****s!).....

My favourite computer for freediving is still my trusty Stinger but its clunky to download and only has 2s sampling which is not ideal...

will try to get hold of a D4 to play with at SaltFree

I'm getting a D4 shortly. Will be putting up a full review once we've completed the testing.

Re: [News] Suunto Unveils New D4 Freediving Watch

Anyone found the pricing? Will it be comparable to D3, Mosquito, or more expensive?

Re: [News] Suunto Unveils New D4 Freediving Watch

US$650 according to Ryan Crawford at the end of the DB article.

Re: [News] Suunto Unveils New D4 Freediving Watch

Spoke to Ryan - he gave me some more info on what the D4 tells you when you're on the surface - sounds much better than the D6/D9

"On Surfacing you will see the details from your last dive and your
surface time will count up in seconds with a variable surface time alarm.
We also have alarms for max depth and a depth notify alarm.

The unit has a sample rate of 3 times per second and then logs the
deepest of those 3 to the logbook every second so this should give a better
picture of the dive profile.

The unit has a daily and total free dive history that is separate to
the scuba history."

I should have one to play with for a while when it's released properly after Christmas

Re: [News] Suunto Unveils New D4 Freediving Watch

The D4 sounds pretty cool, but I can say that at $650 it will be a non-starter for 98% of freedivers.

Re: [News] Suunto Unveils New D4 Freediving Watch

$650 is about €440, which is actually cheaper than Mosquito a short time ago (I think I paid more for mine a few years ago). I believe in a few months you'll be able to get a slightly better deal on it. And D4 is more of a new Mosquito than D3, because it does also air and nitrox tables for scuba diving, so it is designed more for this part of the market - freedivers, spearos and snorkelers who also occasionally scuba dive, and that's probably a rather big group.
