It was on the German station Pro 7, tv total (sorry Mig).
This is the link that should work in the future: TV total - 14.01.2008 Last edited by Herbert; January 16th, 2008 at 01:00. |

Very cool Herbert. I didn't have a clue what you were talking about but it was very cool nonetheless. I've never seen someone being interviewed (and answering) while they were holding their breath!
Cheers, Ben

Just saw it. - I find it comforting that You said - well, kind of said anyway - without training You're down to three minutes. Makes me feel better about the state that I'm in right now.

It was very nice show.
But , sorry, I don't know why you propose beginners to hyperventilate before a breathhold. ![]() I think it's quit dangerous to promote hyperventilation in such a way. Even the moderator hyperventilated until he felt himself dizzy. I don't want to know how many people now will try this in a pool before they do a breathhold or try to dive 50 m! |

True, the hyperventilation for newbies struck me as odd/potentially dangerous as well..

A nice show, good mix of "fun for the general public" and a good try on Herbert's side to describe the freediving disciplines and training. Also very nice chunk of movie from his WC dive. Strange about the hyperv, but then he said to breath more slowly and especially never to do it alone.

My German is terrible, but I think he said "Thanks to Erik (me) for teaching me everything I know about freediving!"

Eric you can stop hyperventilating now
It was a funny show. Personally I was a little bit disapointed with Herbert's awser to why people freedive, only mentioning the competition angle, quick improvements of personal bests. Indeed the images of Herbert's record dive to 112m in CW were nice. The Hyperventilationthing I can understand from a 'quick performance boost' perspective. On the other hand it's not something that is now a days considerd the way to go. But in all it was light and entertaining even though two freediving deaths were mentioned. Kars

Yeah well, actually the images of Herbert's 112 meter dive in the show, are the images of his 111 meter dive from Hurghada the year before:-)
And the turn shown on this 111 meter dive is actually his turn from a entirely different free immersion attempt. :-)) But what the heck...

Funny one!
Herbert, you were quite mercyless with the showman. He almost fainted with that kind of hyperventillating. Kars, Herbert also mentioned the freediving just for fun. May be he could have talked about the fishes, corals, shipwrecks, the Arch. But being on a show it is not so easy to talk about what you want (in that depth, what you want especially), I can tell you.. |

Well Jee you know me, I was hinting twards 'soul-freediving', in other words diving for personal exploration or the holy trinity, Body, Soul and Spirit. But I know what the tv world wants, shallowness, short sentences. Basically babytalk to keep 'the children'-'sheeple' familiar, not to scare them too much with something substancial.
Love, courage and water, Kars
