Hydrodynamic Relaxation Strap...
It holds his arms in a Hydrodynamic position, whilst allowing him to relax his shoulders... (Essential to equalise) MIG |

Mr Mig
This guy is crayz. he born in belgium .. no ocean....no sea.. he can jump into the water and dive to below -200m and hold his breath over 9+ i would like to offer him a bottle of wine Reason maybe ..i am not sure.. he born in a very cold area or close to mountain.. and he has high degree of Hemoglobin.., People think O2 important but i think hemoglobin is important than O2 .. let say.take off from blood all hemeglobin(?) how can O2 caried out? you have info about this person which part of belgium comes?

Sedate, you are probably confusing Herbert Nitsch with Fred Buyle, who is indeed somehow physically resembling Herbert, and who is from Belgium. Herbert is from Austria. Or perhaps you are confusing Belgium and Austria - Austria is indeed a landlocked country with high mountains, while Belgium is a relatively very flat land and it does have access to the sea.

Thanks MIG.
I can't find any information out there, though. Anyone have a better pic? How does it work? I just don't get the principle...

I think it's just a rubberband around the lower of your butt, and you stick your thumbs into the band to keep your arms stretched at the sides, without you needing to spend energy keeping them there.
This technique doesn't necessarily work for everyone, not everyone go their deepest with the arms at the sides. Nitsch wears a lot of weight compared to most, 'cause he prefers to drop all the way down in order to focus on equalizing alone, and then kick as hell going up. Most nowadays go deep with less weight focusing on perfect hydrodynamics with arms above their head, kicking both going down and up. Arms at the sides would not apply for them. Nitsch can get away with the other technique because he has this extensive breath hold, which gets stolen by keeping arms above his head. Anyway, that's what I think...

I think most of the deeper divers are using an arms-down posture now? Martin and Guillaume seem to be doing this in the most recent videos I've seen of them.
A similar system I was going to try in Egypt last year was a piece of velcro on the inside of each elbow to hold my arms in a streamlined posture. Never got round to doing it but might look at it again this year. |

Sedate,
I think you ment Patrick Musimu, who is originally a boxer born in Congo (Africa). Patrick Musimu He did the 209,60 meters dive in June 2005 in Egypt. According to his site his pb static is 8 minutes 33 seconds. About the Hemoglobine and O2 question, you need both Having the arms allong the side is indeed very relaxing, and it helps indeed with equalising. Personally I'm happy with the 1m/s speed, with this speed I can keep up with my *new*hands free equalisation. And I have trust that the relaxation will safe enough energy and O2 to compensate for the few extra seconds I gain over having my arms in front. But maybe I'll revert when I get more flexible in the shoulders and back. We'll see. Thanks for sharing the video! Love, Courage and water! Kars

The idea of using velcro to allow relaxation of arms (in either arms up or arms down position) was invented by Sebastien Murat in 2001.
