Steve Truglia

Some of you will remember Steve back in 2002 when he undertook the UK's first No Limits dives to 76m. Quite a challenge back then when only a handful of Brits could get past 50 metres and none had No limits experience.

Steve is now training to break Joe Kittingers 48 year World Freefall Parachute Jump record from the edge of space. Joe jumped from 102,000 feet. Steve is planning to jump from a gondola at 120,000 feet.

Just thought you might like to know.

Re: Steve Truglia

I was reading that in the paper on the way home and kicking myself trying to think where i'd heard his name before. The paper didn't mention anything about freediving though.

Good luck to him! Crazy crazy stunt, they were talking about him potentially breaking the sound barrier! The guy certainly likes his extremes.

Cheers,
Ben

Re: Steve Truglia

Good for him. I like the guy- he took a lot of flack and wasn't getting a lot of support as a freediver at the time, but I say he carries a big set around.
Good luck Steve.

Yeah I remember Steve, good look lad if you look in

Funnily enough azapa and I were discussing Joe Kittingers jump last week, it's the photo in his avatar.

Here's a nice video by Boards of Canada that contains footage from Joe Kittinger's jump (if I'm not mistaken):

If my memory is right then Joe Kittinger broke sound barrier actually, so he will do probably too.

Petr

Edit: seems like my memory was wrong....

Re: Steve Truglia

How would this work then.

If he is breaking the sound barrier and was going 'aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrggghhhhhh' all the way down (thats what i would be doing anyway) would he not hear himself until he landed then???

:-) Good luck Steve.

p.s. How is the sponsorship going Sam for your run, i sponsored you here Sam Still - World Champion 2005 (Static Apnea)

Re: Steve Truglia

I think Steve did not make his attempt yet, but the French adventurer Michel Fournier attempted to set the new record yesterday in Canada. He planned jumping from 130,000 feet (40,000 meters). Unfortunately, the helium filled balloon left without his capsule

This was his third failed attempt to set the record. In 2002 and 2003 winds shredded his balloon before it became airborne.

Re: Steve Truglia

Bad news for Fournier
North Battleford is relatively close to me (4 hour drive), and I have a good friend that lives there, plus our own miles is living there too for a while. I'm sure the whole city (small city) was watching and waiting!
