Folks,
I'm interested in building up a picture of what freediving blogs there are out there (personal, corporate or group/team based). I'm sure Ivo (trux) will be able to help with this but in the meantime can people post their links to either their blogs, or blogs they know about, that deal with Freediving. |

I have 47 blogs listed in the Apnea Media Base: blog @ APNEA.cz, but I know there are many more - some of them are not listed as blogs in the database, but rather as regular web sites (because of the extensive content) web @ APNEA.cz (there are 439 websites listed in the database). And there are several of them also in the RSS feed at APNEA.cz: Freediving News
The most active and with the best content is probably Shark-Freediving (though Jorg is little too busy in the last time to update the blog as regularly as before), and then several personal blogs of diverse freedivers, especially in French. Yes, Il Resto Del Delfino is listed at APNEA.cz too, but there is now a new blog of Guillaume Néry that was not listed there, and is certainly interesting. I added it lately: Le blog de Guillaume Néry

Trux how does your website pick up new blogs? I noticed that many of the ones I listed above aren't on your site yet.
Cheers, Ben

Medical documents are being added automatically by a robot I wrote, but as for blogs or new websites, I had to add them alone, unless someone else does it (there is a link Add New at the bottom of the page). However, until now, from the 2200+ records in the database, only about 5 were added by users, so it usually needs to wait till I find the time to register the links, add photos, and to enter some keywords, description and other data. I still have a big bunch of links in a folder on my PC, that wait for adding and I do it as time allows. I'll certainly add the missing blogs too.

Right, I see - I wasn't sure which bits were manual and which were automated. That URL drag/drop tool is fantastic!

Two more questions - how does the site determine if a URL is a website or a blog? and is there a link to the blogs on the home page?

Currently there is not a separate category for blogs. Often it is also very difficult to tell whether a website is just a pure blog, or a regular website with some blog features - the threashold is very dim. The link to blogs I posted above is simply a query link searching in the database for the keyword "blog" - as soon as the word appears in the title, in the keywords, or in some other fields, it will appear in the results too. As for new user submissions - I review them, and add necessary missing keywords, pictures and other data. They do not appear in the database until I approve them manually. I am just going to look at yours

Ah, I forgot: no, there is no link to blogs on the home page, but I may add links to some popular or suggested searches later. Currently you need to search for blogs on the Media Base page - by entering the keyword "blog" into the search box - that's equivalent to appending it on the url after a question mark: http://apnea.cz/?blog

Excellent. I'm completely website illiterate so it's great to be able to fiddle around with this sort of stuff!

And I also forgot to tell that I am adding most of the blogs supporting RSS (and most do) also into my RSS feed (see those included here: APNEA.cz - News Feed Statistics). It means that any new entries in your blog will appear also in the news box on the main page of APNEA.cz, or on the websites using this free news service. If you are interested in news from blogs only, you can enter the expression cat:blog into the news box search field - the resulting RSS feed for blogs only is here: APNEA.cz: Freediving News - keyword: cat:blog
