Sciencemike, I do not want to hijack this thread; I think it is an interesting topic, so we should not mix it with another one, although it is interesting too. Would you mind moving your post to the Freediving Science section? Just create a new thread there about SWB, and copy & paste your above post there. There, it may also better attract attention of people being experts in the field of freediving physiology.
As for shallow vs. deep diving, personally I always stay relatively shallow when recreationally diving, but I admit that I also like line diving with our club, and feel certain satisfaction when I improve my PB. These are though two completely separate and different disciplines, that do not mix together. And I probably still like more and have more fun with the recreational freediving (or call it snorkeling). |

Agreed. Thanks for the reason trux.
I think that deep diving can be a fun challenge, but sometimes it feels more like work, and less like play. Enjoy diving. |

Hello Bryan,
I can see where you are coming from, it is frustrating to arrive at depth on a recreational dive and head strait back for the surface. A lot is in the mind and how relaxed you are. A big night before any dives and I'm the same. A good buddy at the top watching out for you though, and meeting your before you surface makes being deep feel really relaxing and safe. Personally I like the "hug" of the pressure bellow, say 12m and I find less not very fulfilling. Keep freediving safely and you may look back on this thread in a couple of years to see how you have progressed. Safe dives
