Cool Travelling and Scuba

Hi everyone,
When I leave school (ina year and a bit) I am thinking of doing a dive instructors course and travelling the world for a bit, teaching the wonderful sport of Scuba.
Just wanted to hear from anyone out there that has/is doing this and has some comments on the good and/or bad parts of it.
Thanks guys,
Nicky

1. Don't expect great pay.
2. Who in their right mind would pay for scuba instruction?!?! Oh yeah, everyone that isn't a British BSAC diver. *chuckles at the rest of the world*

BSAC = British Sub Aqua Club

HI,
here in europe, every country have they're own personnal dive organization that are all at war with PADI. BSAC (http://www.bsac.com/) in England, FFESSM (http://www.ffessm.fr/) (Fédération Francaise d'Etudes et de Sports Sous-Marins (French Federation of study and underwater sport)) in France, BTLV (http://www.btlv.ch/) in Switzerland, ICAAS (http://www.icaas.com/) (Instituto Científico de Actividades Acuáticas y Subacuáticas) in Spain, FIPS (FEDERAZIONE ITALIANA PESCA SPORTIVA E ATTIVITA' SUBACQUEE ) in Italy etc... etc... The rest of the world dive PADI and is Happy!!!

The main reason most guys want to go instructor is to work under the sun and have a lot of chick. It was my plan but i realize that i prefer to be a customer and enjoy my dives then being responsible of a bunch of irresponsible persons.....

Just my 2 cents

P.S. This message has a part serious, and a funny one, do not mix'em up or you might get an unwanted reaction...

BSAC isn't like PADI, it's club driven rather than school driven. Like with PADI you pay to do a course, and the instructor gets the money. With BSAC you join your local BSAC club, and pay a yearly membership. This membership fee covers all of your training and your BSAC membership, you don't have to pay extra to do the courses. Also, the instructors don't get any money, they do it because they choose to, and they maybe get the occasional pint of beer from a student.

PADI = Beer too

HI,
actually, if you go at PADI headquarter and look at my Advanced OW file, you will see "Beer" as the price of the course... All agencies are the same, it's the instructor that make the difference.

Cheers

Depends on the students you get. Personally I wouldn't want to be an instructor, I'd rather spend my time not having to worry about a couple of novices. But that's just me, you might find it interesting and rewarding. Get yourself trained up as an instructor, then give it a quick try before you go abroad, that way you'll know before you start travelling.
