Talking Scuba gear

Hello,
I am new to scuba diving. I was wondering what the best brands of equipment are. I am planning on doing mostly cold water dives in the 40's but a few times a year I do go to warmer climates at about high 50s to low 60s I am very new and dont now have deep I will be diving. I am doing classes this summer.

Re: Scuba gear

i dont think is easy to say to someone else what the best brand is when he aims to buy his first equipment . You see it is good to have a little bit of your own thought . You have to search a litle bit by yourself and built your own base of knowledge . And when you decide that you are somewhere , focused on two or three brands then ask for help in your search (let say for example , you have to decide if you prefer a piston or a diaphragm regulator and after asking for the best brand)

Re: Scuba gear

Oceanscurve, the best advice for buying new equipment is rent and/or borrow different things from friends and LDS. Most diving equipment is just a matter of fit and personal preference. Just try some stuff out and see what is the most comfortable for you personally. And if that idea isn't feasible for any of a variety of reasons, I would suggest buying used equipment for your first set.

hi Tom
my first brand was scubapro (regs and bcd), used them ever since for recreational diving and never had a problem. they are sold, good quality and should they need it can be fixed almost anywhere
keep your stuff serviced once a year and properly rinsed after each dive... you'll have it for ever.
fins are another story though - and on this website there are 1001 opinions on which fins to use

welcome to scuba diving!
