| Re: Guernsey 2008 Anyone in tonite? it was a little choppy even on a sheltered beach. Spent the first half hour looking for 'subjects' to photograph - not much around tho. Came accross a nice flattie which will be on the raclette tomorrow when the outlaws come for tea :-) I decided to use the spear on it and glad I did as it would have got off the knife very easily. Water is really really clear, great vis and not too cold (in all that rubber Any advice on killing these fishy things - I tried the knife in the brain (not my brain ) and the fish just kept on going, even on the chopping board! Normally it's a bit easier?Felt a bit bad that it just kept on flapping around. I also need a lesson on filleting ... Last edited by Jonny250; November 22nd, 2008 at 11:19. |

| Re: Guernsey 2008 Jonny you are a star Sole are very feisty & can easily get off a spear let alone a knife! There is a art to skinning a sole but I am not even going to consider explaining that on line!

| Re: Guernsey 2008 seems there's a new flattie king on the horizon here!! Still think you're mad going in the water though, nearly froze solid on dry land with my float suit on the other night, let alone in the water...

| Re: Guernsey 2008 Well done again Jonny, you seem to have found the only fish on the island! I was cold enough sitting in the pub! Clive, sorry I'm probably responsible for lowering the tone to nipples and knobs - although it has to be said the others didn't need much encouragement!

Must admit that all the faffing with the camera means that i dont notice the cold much - too absorbed in pressing all the buttons and trying to understand macro. Foxfish, not sure about the weight, about 3 - 3.5 lbs I think but it kept flapping off the scales; 21.5 inches. ![]() OMD, I think you're quite safe from the young "bonnie prince Jonny". |

| Re: Guernsey 2008 Plaice for tea tomorrow, with a side order of plaice and mullet for sweet. It's cold and very dark out there, especially if you swim out far and stay in an hour and a half. Daughters nicked my camera to take on holiday. See if I can find my old one and post a pic and a few more details tomorrow. Gotta go now as need to sit in the fridge to warm up. Dave |
