Re: Cammo for spearguns

No idea mate but it can be quite good over here - you will have to make a small excursion?
We will be having a "Deeper Blue Guernsey fishin" next summer but I have yet to set any dates.
You can read about this years here http://forums.deeperblue.net/beach-b...ey-2007-a.html or Guernsey in general here http://forums.deeperblue.net/trip-re...ey-2007-a.html

Covert i was wondering if you have any experience with the use of flashers in bluewater ive been looking at the Rob Allen flasher but ive never talked to anyone who has used one.
well welcome to the site buddy yeah this is an awesome foundry of the collective knowledge of the wise the old and the ugly Enjoy your stay.

I cammo might help a little in some instances but its designed to break up your profile so you dont look like a 4m long predator and thats basically that.

Bluewater flashers, errm nope we generally just shoot tuna and we use echo finders to spot them then go down and hunt the beasts. or we use lures, drop divers in the water and then run the lures past the line of divers and shoot the fish that trail.

Though miles is the titan of tuna and he should be able to help you.

Whatever your views, why shouldn't you try to maximise your chances? I can't see any downside - and as you say, it's fun!

By the way I e-mailed Omer but still have heard nothing.
Rabitech stocks those specific omer stickers you could buy from them info@rabitech.com or I have some custom made stickers left and i can have more made for free so if you cant source it ill be happy to mail you the custom ones I have in my drawer

About 16-17 in Guernsey at present I think. Mmmm - toasty! ( single figures in winter)

Re: Cammo for spearguns

A bit warmer than that I think Col, very often warmer in the water than the air at this time of year. The sea can get to 20 but but average summer would be 16 -17. 5mm suit is what virtually all UK spearos use. However because we have such huge tidal movement it is easy for swimmers to find much warmer water when the tide comes in over the warm sand.

So, you go from Hawaii to NE England in the Winter
There is good rod fishing to be had on the Yorkshire coast. I had planned to try spearing there but my contact there have just moved closer to us - so probably won't happen now. I would expect it to be colder (less Gulf Stream warming - although it should be sheltered from SW prevailing winds) and possibly murkier(?). I believe the bass move south as it starts getting colder -- so winter is probably not the best time to target them in Yorkshire! I use a 5mm suit year round here -- toasty warm, I leave the socks off in the Summer.

Might be better to walk on the Moors (often snow covered in winter) & find a nice pub. Save the spearing for Hawaii?!

Re: Cammo for spearguns

I would have thought Yorkshire is as bad as linconshire being in the sandy, shallow part of the North sea, almost always 0 vis. Good for winter cod on the rod tho.

Re: Cammo for spearguns

hello Covert

I prefer 100% this option of camo than painting and I would like to add life and a better look to my old Arbalete Champion since the original paint has more scratches than dives, since I live in Tijuana Mexico, my best and only option is to buy in USA, did you get it from a reseller or what do yo sugest me to do in order to contact them directly by e-mail

thanks!!!!

Re: Cammo for spearguns

I guess I just got tested.

In a fund raising raffle on Spearfishing Planet, my name was drawn for the second place prize, a free camo point job on my gun.

I thought about having to strip the hardware off of the gun, put it in a tube, and mail it across the country, and it wasn't worth it to me, even through the guy who does the nice paint jobs was going to handle the postage.

Its too bad that it wasn't won by someone who cared about it.

Re: Cammo for spearguns

And it's important we know this because...?

Being mildly aware of the reasons for the raffle and all, maybe the next person on the raffle list might be more willing to part out their gun and send it off. And no, it's not me, the camo thing is a stretch, even for me.

Jim's got a nice looking site, by the way.
