The first is just a 3-pronged screw-on head for a shaft & the latter is just a normal barbed shaft, commonly reffered to as either Hawaiian or Tahitian depending on whether the barb lies on the top or bottom of the shaft.

Cool Hand spears/ triggerless guns

I use a triggerless speargun/ handspear. I Hunt the Bahamian Reefs where triggered spearguns and hunting with supplied air is illegal. I truely enjoy this type of spearing. I grew tired of the equipment available on the market and set out to make a better weapon. What I came up with is available at Hawaiiansling .net or you can view the discussion about it at items for sale at this site, hawaiian sling. These are hand made in small quantities at this time.
I have never used a triggered gun. I have taken many reef fish over 20lbs and some 30lbs plus while freediving. I would not recomend it for bluewater hunting.
Check it out!
Ray

If you look at AB Biller in USA or Sea Hornet in Australia they both make good strong Fibreglass hand spears, the Ausie ones have a 5/8 or 9/16 UNF thread and take a 5 pronged head which is available with 6 or 8 inch long prongs - these inch pronged heads are what guys here use on Dogtooth Tuna -although that is when fired from a multi rubber gun with a 5/16 or 3/8 shaft not a a handspear or polespear.
a lot of guys here start with these and they teach you how to get close to fish as they have very limited range, but it is easy enough to get a second or 3rd shot on the one breath if you miss unlike a gun- unless you have a heaps better breathold or quicker reload time than me.
if you try searching for these names on the net im sure youll find something.
Regards Peter
