Fins

Hi again people

I need some help with fins....Up till now i have only SCUBA dived (no hunting involved - i have mixed feeling on this subject) ....i own a pair of technisub stratos fins and they work remarkably well while SCUBA diving (lots of channels and ribs)...the stratos are open heel fins....should this make any difference while freediving ?? i will need to wear my boots while using these fins.

Hiya

The advantages of the long bladed fins is that they allow you to use less precious oxygen to get to the bottom. Almost everybody uses the closed heel type. Apparently its more effiecient. Less power loss and the footpocket is more rigid. Your booties will unfortunately not work with a full pocket, so you'll have to get neoprene socks.

Theres been plenty of discussion about the various types of fins. Heres a link on probably THE most comprehensive test on fins!!!!! Has probably WAYYYY to much information that you'll ever need!!!

Just remember that when you're buying your fins, make sure that they fit your feet well. Everybody has a different shape foot and what works for one, might not work for another.

I used to spearfish with the exact same fins. (or an older model) did so with great sucess, Still use my "Tecnisub Idea3" for shallow water work and in rivers. there is nothing better then a footpocket longblade, but you can get started with your scuba fins. Good luck!
