Omer Dull Hunt?

I just bought the omer flat hunt the other day from a LDS and when I took it out it was super dull!! It could barely cut my float line and couldn't cut zip ties at all! When I looked at it closer it looked like the knife had been used, not just used but dropped too because the tip looked pushed in. So I take it back to the dive shop and he said, "thats the way they come, it's for killing fish not cuttting rope." I don't know where he grew up but where I come from knives are used to cut things. So I ask for a refund or exchange and he tells me "sorry, our policy is all sales final. Just take it to a place to get it sharpened or get a sharpener from Wal-Mart." I wanted to choke him but oh well, what can you do. Anyway, sorry for the long post but was anyone else's flat hunt dull? Is the very tip of the knife flat?

Re: Omer Dull Hunt?

you should have told him that when underwater, your knife is your lifeline, maybe offer to tangle him up in rope 50 feet down with a dull knife

get it sharpened up

Re: Omer Dull Hunt?

Boys, all the knives I've had needed to be sharpened, because they were not sharp at all factory made. Omer, Cressi, Seatec, Technisub: all dull. The Cressi Killer was the dullest of them all: I sharpened it, and now it cuts everything.

Re: Omer Dull Hunt?

I can't really comment on that knife, but I would advise you not to patronize that dive shop anymore .

The shops I give my business to, understand the value of happy loyal, repeat customers. I walked into a one of my favorite shops yesterday for just a floatline and walked out with two new guns. Thanks Mike!

Loyalty is a two way street, and we individually benefit the dive industry for all when we boycott the short sighted money grubbers, and remain faithful to those who are more concerned about their product's quality and the satisfaction of the individuals.

Jim

P.S. Since I am already on this topic, there is one company that I can highly recommend if you're in the market for a polespear. John Martin of Linghunt (john@linghunt.com) is one of the most attentive custom polespear manufacturers I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. Quality, superior customer care, and great pricing make this guy my hero!!!

Re: Omer Dull Hunt?

i had 2 knoves that were very sharp as they came from the dive shop, one was the riffe hunter (my personal favourite) , the other one my dad got me as a gift was a mares it is very big, im talking rambo big, but it looks cool and i use it to cut/fillet the fish i catch , its too bulky to take spearfishing compared to the riffe. I also have a spike which i use to kill the fish

Re: Omer Dull Hunt?

Your post makes me feel a bit better Spaghetti. I don't think I would have cared as much if the owner would have been cool about it. Guess i'll have to go in search of a new LDS. If only I was a ref....

Re: Omer Dull Hunt?

I have had several knives & they were all sharp from new but I wouldn't worry it they weren't as I always run them through a simple kitchen sharpener to keep them keen. For major sharpening a Mill B@stard file works -- you can even re-shape the blade with it (and/or a round chainsaw file -- normal practice for ice axe picks). I was thinking of converting my spare flat tip knife to a point for spearfishing - although a flat tip has its uses too.

Thumbs up Re: Omer Dull Hunt?

compliments to those suppliers who read and react to comments made on forums like these. on the spearfishing.net.au website a customer had problems with the new pelaj knife and it was straight away rectified by the salesrep online.
well done

Re: Omer Dull Hunt?

Thanks a lot for that offer Mark. I just got the flat hunt sharpened and it works just fine now i'm happy to report. I must say you have single handedly brought me back to buying omer products with your offer. Very few suppliers would have done that and I highly value customer service (as you can see from my first post) from a business. Thanks for keeping me with omer

A happy ending! Kudos to Mark at Omer USA. (Omer make some pretty nice marks, snorkels, fins & spearguns too ). Italy beat Germany in the World Cup qualifier yesterday.

Re: Omer Dull Hunt?

OMER has always back up his products, all brands can have a defective part, but it is very important that the distributor backs him up.
But, the guy who sold you the knife, hum...

Re: Omer Dull Hunt?

You guys are great, if anything the thought of someone freediving and hunting without a sharp knife doesn't sit well with me at all.

Roberto's, I shot a nice wahoo (with a 50 reel he dumped in 3 seconds) and a yellowfin in Hatteras Sunday. I'll post the pics as soon as I get a minute! Clear waters,

Mark
