Re: Help choosing band

Hallo my friend,

The thickness, number and length of the bands depend on how you intend to use the gun. For a 60cm gun primarily used for cave fishing and for smaller fish up to 3-4kg you can use 17.5mm bands for more powerfull shots or 16mm bands for less powerfull shots. Of course, the power of the shot also depends and on the length of the bands but comparing a 16mm and a 17.5mm bands of equal size in 95% of the cases the thicker the better. Regarding the length of the bands, measure the distance between the last notch of your spear and the muzzle of your gun (where the bands are attached), then divide that distance by 3.5 (the co-efficient can vary from 2.7-4 depending on the band, but 3.5 is the most common) and the number you will find is the proper length for your bands! i.e. if the distance is 118cm for 115cm gun then 118/3.5 = 33.7cm. For the 115cm gun the proper bands are roughly 34cm long. This a quite rough approach, but it is ok for a 60cm gun.

Hope I helped.

Panos

Re: Help choosing band

so if i get 16mm band will it fit my gun?

also what is a good place to buy the tubing by the foot?
i went with http://www.reefscuba.com/surgical_tubing.htm for the 19mm tubing and seemed good but shipping was like 7$ which was the same amount for the tubing which i got 3 feet...

my gun using that forumal should use like 30cm of total tubing?

Re: Help choosing band

Hi,

If i understood well, your gun doesn't use screwed in bands pass but pass through ones. If this is the case then you will need one piece 30-34cm long. Start with the 34cm and if it is not powerful enough, cut it down to 30cm. take a look at http://www.subprof.com but dont expect much difference in the shipping costs! Which country do you come from?

regards

Re: Help choosing band

yes they seem to be pass through.. im just worried that the place that holds the band up front is big enough to even hold 16mm bands... Does anyone know for sure if my gun can hold it?

btw i live in New York, United States
