One piece wetsuit to two piece??

I bought a wetsuit Mares tropic full suit-one piece and i don't feel very comfortable with it.
It feels like it's pulling my head down...which i believe has something to do with the fact that's it's one piece and when stretched it tries to get back in it's original form...!
Anyway i want to make it a two piece by cutting it just below the rear zipper so i will have the lower part as a pant and i can add a piece of neoprene on the bottom of the jacket(upper part) and wear it as a two piece.
I also thought that this way i could get a vest and wear the pant with the vest on the hot days.
BUT can i wear only the pants without using the part that "clips" from the jacket-the one that holds the pants up...???
