Hi guys,
I just noticed that i could get a polespear here in the uk... i was thinking it may be usefull for travelling ( easy to just shove in a suitcase). However i have absolutley no idea how they work!!! Any info what-so-ever would be apprichiated. cheers, Huw.

Polespears are pretty easy to use. However, one must be very close to the fish.
We use them in fresh water with 3 long tines (6" - 8") for smaller fish, or a large barbed tip for larger fish. Set up is a long pole (usually fiberglass or Stainless Steel) with a tip on one end and rubber cord on other. To "lock & load", one puts their hand through the rubber cord and stretches it towards the tip of the pole. You then hold it there until ready to shoot. To shoot, one simply points at the target & releases their grip on the pole. The pole is shot forward by the rubber cord. That is about it...pretty simple. Personally, I like a gun better, but for smaller fish that you can get close to, a pole spear can't be beat for quick action. One can take 10 - 20 shots with a pole spear to each shot by a spear gun due to the quick reload. Happy Spearing, Gene

I love a pole spear for small fish up to about 10lbs max. I have rigged a 24" phnumatic speargun with a holster held on by velcro. So whenx i see a big fish they dont stand a chance.xx

Ocean,
Cool idea (have pole spear & speargun with ou at same time). I would be worried about safety with the gun. (I'm sure you have that covered.) It would be hard to do with a banded speargun...locked & loaded.  The way I usually do it is to spear as a team with my son (10 yr old). He has the pole spear & I have the gun. Gene

The holster i am rigging up will have a little pouch at the end for the spear tip. I can use the speargun with one hand so i will hold onto my pole spear as i unstrap the speargun and push off the safety. The safety has to be pushed hard for to be be ready to fire.
The big fish i will be using this on are ling cod and cabazone, they hang around once they come in or i find them so i will have enough time to get ready to shoot them.
