Speargun Safeties

Awhile back I bought an Aimrite railgun but noticed it didn't have a safety mechanism. Am I overlooking something or is this an intentional design? If by design, what is the rationale for not having a safety?

Re: Speargun Safeties

my c4 doesnt have a safety either and personally i never use the safety on any of the other guns i own, i simply dont trust it, the only true safety is that of slack rubbers, aimrite are among the best brands, i dont think youre missing anything
cheers

Re: Speargun Safeties

In facts. I took away the safety from many of my spearguns. Two reasons:
1-the safety is not safe, as Marwan pointed out, and even worse: it gives you a false impression of safety, that's dangerous.
That's because the safety "button" keeps the trigger stuck, not the shaft. So you have no 100% certainty that the gun won't accidentaly shoot even with the safety on. The best safety, the real safety, is slack rubbers: never keep gun loaded out of water, never aim to persons or boats.
2-Every spearo has lost so many good fish because he forgot the safety "on" while hunting. You ventilate, go down, hide in the kelp and do any trick of this world to get close to the fish, and when it finally comes into range you pull the trigger and........FU@#^CK!!!

Re: Speargun Safeties

For all the reasons stated by others, I don't have safeties on any of my guns, and if I got a gun with a safety, I would never use it or would remove it.

Many years ago I've tried to bend too many triggers taking a shot with the safety on.

Re: Speargun Safeties

I also think that the safety is a waste, the riffe mid handle however does that a safe system, is a little pin that can be inserted behind the triggers system preventing the trigger lift and the release of the shaft. This may be a good design but still a waste for me. I also remember losing a cobia because of a stupid safe system.
The only thing they can be use is to play dummy jokes and locking your friend guns (That was my case with the cobia)

I agree. It has happened to me, that the gun has fired accidentally. Thats why I never carry the gun holding it in a way where my hand or even my fingers are in contact with the rubber bands or the shaft.

Re: Speargun Safeties

same rule for spearguns as for regular firearms (well besides from the water part) only safety is rubbers off.......donīt get confused here, talking spearfishing now

other rule of thumb:
you dont point your pecker at something you donīt want to take down.
