After many years of using a screwdriver (with sharpened tip), and the Gill R.I.P. I've decided to up it a notch and get a knife.
I am steering towards wearing it either in my arm (tricep area or clipped to belt) I have it down to 4...Any suggestions on these??? Wenoka Titanium EZ-Lock Knife from LeisurePro.com Aeris Optional Knife For Atmos 2 Computer Console & Aeris BCD's (Silver Jack) from LeisurePro.com Austin's Diving Center - Knives spetton mako Diving-Action . com omer mini laser |

I just ordered the wenoka knife from leisurepro. Cheap as hell for a titanium knife, and comes in a stilleto blade shape for easy piercing (and has a line cutter). A couple of the reviewers complained that the straight blade wasn't very sharp but obviously that can be fixed easily. Will let you know when it gets here.

I use a Spetton Mako, in large part because I like the flat profile. It has a great edge and resists corrosion. The rubber "keeper" at the top of the sheath works, but the knife's handle shape/design could be changed slightly to make it more effective.
It's a great knife for spearfishing and dispatching fish. Also cuts line effectively when needed, with both serrated and standard blade edges. Has a great sheath with quality straps. Good luck in your decision.

If you like the Mako, Masahiro Mori sells it without the Spetton name on it for $35.
He also sells the Riffe knive without the Riffe name for $30. The wrist bungee was my own addition. morifish@aol.com

Hey
I´ve got the omer mini laser. It is a very fine knife and i like the feature that it is sharp on both sides of the blade. The side looking like a saw makes it easier two cut through the spine of the fish. I just think taht the mini laser is far too small and I have even got small hands. So I would advise you two go for the larger Laser. /Joachim |

I have heard from a few that the wenoka's have a tendency to bend, has anyone heard or had an experience like this?
thx joachim, I had a doubt regarding that issue, I liked it b/c it seems it would fit grt on my arm, but was concerned with the size. armandozx yep and john, dennis, victor- all swell guys indeed |

if you are looking for knife to brain the fish and at the sam time could be used to cut line etc... focus on the stilleto style knives, thinner, pointed one sharp edge and one serrated edge, i think the wenoka are a bi tooo wide versus, omer laser or riffe (which is an awesome spearo knife), there is also the sporasub snake knife that doug sells at austins, amazing....

The Riffe knives are very nice as well. I have used the same one for years as one of the two knives I like to carry.
For braining fish, along with cutting gills and line, another couple knives to look at are the Beuchat daggers. They come in a short and long version, perfect for arm and leg wearing. My buddy got one, and I liked it so much I ordered one for myself. I neglected to cite Mori as a source for the Spetton (or non-Spetton) Mako knives. I believe I got mine from him, and have been very pleased with it, whether or not it is a Spetton. It appears you are in Florida, so you probably will not have the need for the kind of kelp-cutting abilities that are appreciated in a knife when diving off California. For that use, nothing in my opinion can beat the D-R great white knife. The thing cuts kelp, fish gills, all kinds of line and even cable - better than a machete and chain saw combined. I will not get on a boat without it. Safe diving, Chip

I have the Omer Mini Laser and sporasub snake. I find the Mini laser a great little knife i can't say i find it too fiddly at all to be honest, im a lanky bloke at 6ft3 with big hands and i find it just right for dispatching fish here in the UK. The double edged/ serrated blade is a nice touch and it cuts well through rope and net (found a few nice fenders stuck in amongst rocks). Its not too big as to slip and stab yourself in your hand or leg when dispatching a small or struggling fish and the sheath makes a nice satisfying click when the knife has been properly sheathed again.
I bought the sporasub snake for my holiday to Moz in February so i cant say i've used it yet, but it certainly looks the dogs testicals. Ian

Hi. I would not recommend any titanium knives - you cannot sharpen them unless you know how to and have special equipment. Sharpening of titanium knives are tricky and require special equipment. It took me several days of research on forums of knife loves to find a guy who sharpened knives for living and who agreed to sharpen my Omer titanium knife for about 15-17 dlrs - which is awful lot, given the price of the knife - $50. B
I would also not recommend buying Omer hunter knife - the lock on it is rather unreliable - and if pressed against smth - it can unlock the knife. I lost my new omer hunter knife on first dive. Also the quality of the straps - was inferior - made of some cheap rubber (I guess they saved on latex) - rigid and smelled unpleasantly |
