What set ups are you guys proud of?
Whats better or more balanced for this gun? Are there any modifications, how about the ease of installation? Thanks in advance. |

On my black vipers I like to use the old imersion reel Reel IMERSION Accessories Guns United States Of America Dive Scuba store .com
There are two issues, you need to drill the barrel and it has low volume, if you need more volume, you may want to consider the sporasub reel (the new one).

Hiya
I have a Omer Pelagic 100 reel on my 115cm Rabitech Apex and a Rabitech Pelagic Reel on my 115cm Rabitech Stealth. Unfortunately, you have to drill holes in your barrel to mount them and you also have to remove a small peice of the rail. Mine were both installed by Rabitech. Worth looking at for self-installation is the new Rob Allen reel, or the old Rob Allen reel. The new Aimrite reel also looks good. All of them will be mounted on the bottom, so you don't need to remove a peice of the rail. Regards miles

Rabitech reel, also seems good, but also you have to drill a hole in the barrel (couldnt get myself to do it), but i figured i dont really need a reel and settled for a float and line

I am not sure about your reels, but I own three pelagic reels (the aluminum ones), all of the them are gone, the salt water damage them. I really like the RA reel, I have two of them but both on wooden guns, I think they are too heavy for a rail gun, (just my opinion - I was also using on a 100 gun, may be different on 115), I like my guns to float without the shaft.

Hiya
strangelove, i have a Omer Pelagic 100 and a Omer 30. Both reels are older than 3 years and are still working fine. I have read about some spearo's having corrosion problems. Maybe it was just a bad batch of reels? I'm very lazy when it comes to maintanance and rarely bother washing my guns. The Omer reels have not yet blown up on me!! I haven't yet fitted the Pleagic 100 to a gun under 115cm in length. I've used the Omer Pelagic 30 on a 90cm Rabitech as well as a 100cm Rabitech and they both floated with the spear out. The Pelagic 100 MIGHT be too heavy, as you've encountered. If it is indeed the case, opt for the Pelagic 80 or the new RA reel!! Regards miles

Hugh, drop Mike Damms a email. ( Florida Freedivers - Spearfishing & Freediving Gear ) He should be able to advise on how to fit the new Rob Allen reel. Since you're in Florida, might even be easier to simply take the gun in and let them install it for you!!
Regards miles

Some more pic's of the Omer Pelagic reel on my 115cm Rabitech. Note the last photo. You will need a small stainless steel ring or even a small D-shackle to thread the line through.

The gun is 110, I think I would still go for the plastic reel, they are cheaper was well, my first aluminum reel was older the three years, but the last one that went was around three years old, it was a pelagic 30 (may be a little younger).

May be this is the one Miles have in mind, it looks really good, but I have, brand new from RA. I may get one for my Teak-Sea
