Re: Speed Stringers

Shouldn't it go through the mouth and out the gills?

That way the fish would work their way up the line to your float.

Re: Speed Stringers

It seems to me that would be less of a hangup on the gills too. But Miles and I believe Marwan in other threads that you go in the gills and out the mouth. I had that cheapie rope stringer and gettin it out of the gills was a mess. This float line is a lot more smooth though, so I really don't know.

Re: Speed Stringers

I don't see the gun end in the pic, at least I can't make it out. the loop through your spear tip, you may want to make a sharp kink at the apex of the loop. On the R.A. one I've got here it is bent close. The fish, especially smalle ones may have trouble passing over it? Hard to tell from a picture of course, I'm just going by comparison and guesses though

Let us know how it fairs!

Re: Speed Stringers

Is that a flip FLoP! Chancletero! ahahaha any ways why is the tip so small? I think a long tip would had been better at passing it through the gills I made a home made stringer but is not a speed stringer per say even though Im working on a concept just haven't had time to think it over yet plans are still pending.

Re: Speed Stringers

Attached is an image of the float end of the rig. The fish are already on the floatline and have made there way to the float end. The pass over the 6" 'speartip' and onto the cable. The flopper is I think 2", and the metal section maybe 6". The cable is twisted stainless about 1/8" thick and coated with a thicker shrink coating. Another loop is crimped into the opposite end to clip to the float.

here is another pic of the setup...I've not used it yet, so I know not its performance, one thing in particular is the screw off point which will allow to destring the fish easier, I may shrink wrap the cable on the point as well as the tie ends...we'll see

Re: Speed Stringers

good job Tone..
just be careful, im not so sure about that pin attached between the handle and the float line in the second pic (the DIY speed spike), just make sure it cant be broken if a big fish pulls the spear , cause then you loose the gun NOT COOL!

hmmm I see what you mean, although I dont normally let go of the gun, perhaps an alternative would be to attach to wt belt...thx for the heads'up

Re: Speed Stringers

Tone, i would not recommed tying to yourself, i think the whole beauty of the float line thing is IF that situation occurs (Big fish pulls, or holes up) you could let go of everything and ascend safely to the surface without loosing your gear..so if i were you id try and find a more sturdy solution, instead of attaching to yourself/weight belt..
maybe it doesnt have to be a rod/spike, maybe a piece of stainless steel cable crimped really good at both ends will do, im pretty sure it would be easy to thread it through the gills and out the mouth, should be easy to clip at both ends and harder to break..i think itll work quite well, worth a try ?
