You could try contacting the Rob Allen via their website Rob Allen spearguns, railguns and other spearfishing and freediving accessories.. They're quite responsive. The Rob Allen assegai knife does look good but does not appear to be particularly designed for spearing & seems unusually expensive for a simple knife w/o a handle. Dive knives are easily lost, so that is quite a draw back. The limpet sheath it comes with is very good - I've used one for a couple of year now & love it. I see Palaj offer an identical looking knife, so perhaps it is made by a third party - which might also explain the relatively high cost. It's a pity because I think if it were cheaper it would be a popular choice.

a friend of mine has the rob allen knife, i must say its quite effective for spearing, its flat section makes it very light arund the leg, the sheath is good and its got a spear extractor on it...so that came in handy several times,, downside ive seen is that it tends to rust a bit..maybe you will need to apply silicone grease on it before entering the water to reduce that

Jimy, I didn't notice the original post was from you in the UK. Try contacting the UK distributor, European Spearfishing Supplies. Alternatively, try Portland Oceaneering, they had one in their main counter glass cabinet last year, £38 I think - so a good chance they still have it (& perhaps willing to offer some discount?). Having said that, last time I visited PO the shop was bare - they had a "garage/car-boot/jumble sale" going on in half the shop & they'd even sold their magnificant fish tank
Alternatively buy one of these for £7 + shipping: STAINLESS STEEL KNIFE FOR SCUBA & SPEARFISHING *NEW* on eBay, also Knives, SCUBA Snorkeling, Water Sports, Sporting Goods (end time 13-May-08 16:09:48 BST) They are sold all over the world (inc. the Oz, USA & UK). They are sometimes offered with a bowie shaped blade rather than a dagger or in black instead of mirror-finish stainless steel. The sheath design is better than average (although I don't use it). I am guessing they are a copy of the much more expensive Japanese Hattori knives - although not sure which came first. ![]() [BTW yesterday while looking at knives I came across a link with pictures of barbers/hairdresser scissors priced from £120-£600! It's hard for me to imagine what they could possibly offer that a £5/10/15/20/30/50/60/80/... pair couldn't. I guess it has something to do with them using only one tool so perhaps willing to spend a lot for it. It does seem like the law of diminishing returns would finish at around £15-£60 with loss of reason taking over beyond that Last edited by Mr. X; May 4th, 2008 at 16:07. |

That knife is still in portland oceaneering, although not a lot else is. Apparently the business is up for sale and therefore winding up ready to close down.

That's sad, it is a neat store. A bit off the beaten track but not bad once you find out where it is. Seems like we are all working largely for the benefit of the govt. these days. Looks like there is a lot of development going on round there - do you think it will remain a dive store or become yet another coffee shop? Last edited by Mr. X; May 4th, 2008 at 13:57. |

Nice.. I want a riffe bluewater, would never use it but its so nice keep admiring the one on my friends wall! Mind you makes an expensive shelf! Portland Oceaneering I must admitt has gone down hill in the last year used to be a lot nicer.. but could be great again i'm sure just depends what gets done with it.. Maybe we should get Bryn to buy it to extend the spearo acadamy! lol
