Boat Advice Anyone?

Hey all, being a clueless Canadian here in New Zealand for about 6 more months I was hoping to get some advice on boats for spearfishing (and linefishing). I can't really afford much but plan to save up. Any ideas at all for any way to get me out on the water? Any advice on any method known to man which may be inexpensive and effective would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, it's funny your in Canada, have you tried spearing the west coast? is still a bit cold right now...but theres some good threads on it in the forums somewhere. I've never speared there because I've been traveling Australia and New Zealand for about 18 months and just got into spearing about 15 months ago.

Re: Boat Advice Anyone?

I've seen 3 kings from Cape reinga...but you need a heck of a boat to get out there...I'm from northern alberta, northern sask has some great fishing and northern manitoba, Clearwater lake is the second clenest lake in the world after Lake Baikal in Russia. and is full of lake trout up to 60 lbs supposedly

Re: Boat Advice Anyone?

When I was in NZ i saw a few guys using those RIBs with the fold up wheeles. So when you landed you could just put the wheeles down and drive up the beach! They were pretty friggen cool! Probably very expensive though. I know aluminum boats were very popular in NZ and ill bet you could find a 13-20' aluminum skiff for pretty cheap. Ribs are cool but you gotta watch your spear tips!

Like miles linked above, kayaks are affordable and great for spearing. We did a Kayak trip up in Abel Tasman and it was awesome! I didnt have any dive gear (I think most that area is protected anyway) but sure wish I did.
