track mod on euro style recomendations

firstly i would mention im new to this sport, but am striving to get a decient entry level gun together. just bought an omer excalb. and have herd that adding a track mod will improve accuracy. would like to hear what the seasoned silverbacks have to say on this. ive been doing some digging on varrious boards and havent found much info. where to get this component, and how to mount etc. would like to use a reel also. someone please point me in the direction. thanks

Re: track mod on euro style recomendations

Hiya

One of my first guns was a Omer Exclibur 90. Decent gun, that is well priced and works well.

Adding a rail does offer increased accuracy. How-ever, this is mainly when you start adding a second band or if you're using guns with lengths over 1m. I'd leave the Omer Excalibur in standard form. If you still want to go with the rail, simply buy a rail from the same place that you bought the omer from. Omer does offer a simple stick on rail for their guns.

Some popular mod's that spearo's do is to remove the metal (articulated) wish-bone and replace it with a dyneema wishbone. This means that you either have to get a spear that is designed for dyneema wishbones or you have to smooth the notch's on your current spear or else it will simply cut through the dyneema wishbone. The reason for using a dyneema wishbone is quite simple, its SAFER of your hands, should it slip out of the notch!!

If you're starting off, i'd advise a floaline. It's VERY easy to lose your gun with a reel on it!! The floatline is MUCH safer, as well as offers you a place to store your catch AND more importantly, make yourself visible to boats and jet-ski's.

In standard trim, the Omer Excalibur is a decent gun. Rather get used to the gun, before you start modify-ing it.

Regards
miles

Re: track mod on euro style recomendations

there, you heard it all from the master
i agree with all the points miles mentioned, the only thing i would add is that i have the excalibur in 1m, with the added stick on rail from omer...cant say it improved or affected accuracy, i use it with a single 18mm band...its already quite an accurate gun i think you will like it i have many guns and still use the excalibur most of the time..

Re: track mod on euro style recomendations

say any good articles or links on how to properly sand down a spear shaft to convert to dyneema wishbones? also what to watch out for. as in what are typical failures during this mod. or is it nearly impossible to screw up.
