Bent Shaft

Hi all spearos!

I own an OMER MB2000 carbon gun which I cunstomized a little bit by adding a JBL shaft rail. This works perfectly great and the gun's precision is deadly. The only problem I can find in the gus is the shaft, it has a 6mm stainless shaft which is very likely to bent when hunting medium fish (6-15 lbs). Yesterday I speared a Jack and it bent the shaft in two diferent places: The wishbone notch and the middle of the shaft. This is vey akward, since I don't have too much experience fishing large fish and don't want to imagine what could happen if get a 30-punder. I'm planning to replace the shaft for an omer 6.5mm shaft, but I'm not very secure. Please give me some advie!

PS. Her two pics of guys who have bent my shaft

Re: Bent Shaft

a few questions:
1- what length is your gun?
2- what size rubbers?

if you have a 100 or longer, i suggest that you switch to a single 20mm rubber and use a 7mm or 7.5mm shaft. Rob Allen and Freedivers shafts will fit most euro trigger mechanisms without a problem. The same goes for Rabitech steel. Also, you could volunteer to buy a Pelaj shaft and post a review as i cant seem to find many.

Good luck and happy hunting.
lovely fish btw

Re: Bent Shaft

My gun is a 100cm with one 20mm band, which is about 12 inches long (not sure).

Re: Bent Shaft

I would echo mishu's advice on the Rob Allen shafts if you can get hold of them. They are by far the most bend resistant shafts I have ever used. Between 6.5 and 7mm should be fine with a single 20 band with the rail

Hey! I have a Beuchat 6.5mm, 140cm, rockwell/3face that might be good. Interested?

Re: Bent Shaft

My Omer Master Competition 106 is about the same gun of your MB2000 (only difference is the handle: mine has the Excalibur's handle, not the MB).
I'm happy with a set up of 18mm Omer Power 18 band and 6,5mm Omer America shaft.
The problem with a 6mm shaft is not only related to bending, but also to ballistic performance. The skinny 6mm is great for reef hunting cause it gives you more velocity (very speedy shots) on close targets, BUT it rapidly looses velocity in the long run to hit distant targets.
My say is: go 6,5 mm for the shaft, and any band between 17,5 and 20mm thick.
