Question Aspetto?

Until recently, my experience in spearfishing has mainly been a learn-by-doing event, with no real formal training or information. That being said, there are many terms which I have not heard of. Can someone please define ASPETTO for me? I keep seeing the word, but don't completely understand its meaning.

Re: Aspetto?

Read Ambush section on that thread for Aspetto technique - basically lye and wait in silence

Lightbulb Re: Aspetto?

"Aspetto" means in Italian "I am waiting"

it is ambush...

in French we say "agachon" but this is a very technical word... nobody else than a qualified spearhunter may understand what it means...

Re: Aspetto?

It's about laying down at the bottom to ambush a fish that may come in front of you within shooting range. Often the fish will sense you going down while you won't see it. Most fish are shy but curious and will likely come check out what sank from the surface so it is a waiting game. As you wait silent at the bottom you spend little energy which allows to extend your stay there. As a fish approaches from the front adjust your aim slowly.
JB Esclapez made this technique famous by using it first at a world championship and winning it.
