Your profile shows you to be young? Good, fresh to the sport. Find what you like about spearfishing. Remember that even if you go the way of the scubadoobadoo you will probably return when you yearn for the simplicity that is freediving. Plus you can get a lots of fins and guns for the green you may spend on scuba tech.

to answer the original question, i think the frequency of big fish taken on freediving is more than that on scuba....
im no bluwater hunter, but i guess most blue water/trophy fish are not very deep, and also not near any reeefs..all of which are more favourable conditions for freedivers..
