I have a few buddies that scuba at night and use a big light, but they are hunting lobsters and not fish. Because mainly roam only at night it's pretty much the only way to get consistant numbers. They use the light to temporary blind the lobsters then reach down and grab them.

I have seen a few situations where fish are attracted to light, but in so cal you mainly attack squid, and that's not always the best thing to do!

Re: night fishing

it depends where u are hunting and what u are hunting. if its a nocturnal fish, try to hunt at a full moon, fish are somehow more active and you dont have to rely on ur torche as heavily. if its a reef you should be able to find a large amount of nocturnal fish, so dont pick off the ones that are asleep, its just not right.

Re: night fishing

Paddy I hate to tell you this, but spearfishing during the night is illegal in Spain ("prohibido entre la puesta y la salida del sol") as well as in Italy. Check the regulation below:
Federación Española De Actividades Subacuáticas - Pesca Submarina (Normas que regulan la pesca marítima de recreo)
I'm sorry.
