Wat time do u find spearfishing the best

In southern spain i find 7am-11am and 7pm-10pm the best times, the morning more because of the night before, ive seen massive bass, sargo, salpa and grouper all double figures, either in the rocks or on the sand floor about a metre from rocks heading out to sea, i use my 75 tabu with trident mostly for this kind of fishing, especially manovering around rocks and cave diving.... For night time again the same around the rocks and in deep caves with my cressi torch, seem to hide the big fish, unless there are showls of bait fish on the surface then i venture out more to sea, but at the moment where i spearfish there is a massive reef that head sout to sea so i stay close to that.........Ita be to hear other favorite times to spearfish

Re: Wat time do u find spearfishing the best

Here in the Persian Gulf (Qatar), I find the best time to be early dawn, that is around 4.45am till 8am in the summer season, and around 6am till 11am in the winter season. At this time, all sort of fish seem to be in like a feeding orgy, where you see large shoals of supersized fish (kingfish, giant trevallies, big barracudas, cobias, milkfish, queenfish, etc... depending on the season too). In addition, usually in the early morning, current is mild here (as we get to experience some very strong current) and visibility tends to be better. The only adverse thing about dawn trips is that we often get very little or no sleep, as we might need 2 or 3hrs to reach the desired location and its not uncommon that we stay over 6hrs in the water spearing and fighting the current as well !

What about with tides? If you have a choice of a morning, what are you looking for in tides to be the best hunting?

Re: Wat time do u find spearfishing the best

I prefer lower tides; as there would be less current and visibility would be much better. Depending on the timing, but in most of my dives, I had high tides starting at 11am, sometimes, 12pm, 1pm etc... and I noticed the visibility would considerably deteriorates... Therefore, best time would be in the early morning in term of lower tide, better viz, and less current as well.

For example: once in mid July, two of my buddies went to this place close to shore in Qatar. Sea was flat, there was no wind and everything seemed alright. They called me by around 11am to tell me that they had best visibility ever! You could see from 20m+ all the fish that were in the bottom of the seabed! By the time I arrived, which was around 2pm, high tide had started and visibility went down to less than 5m! When I saw the videos that they shot before, I couldnt believe my eyes of what I had just missed in 3hrs !

Regards...

Re: Wat time do u find spearfishing the best

I agree about the current and visibility changing with tides. Those are always nice to have in your favor, but what about the fish activity? Aside from seeing them because of the visibility, do you notice any tides where the fish seem more active, more interested in feeding, or willing to come out in the open? I guess the current could dictate this too (for example if they were active during slack tide because the smaller fish were more willing to come out of hiding without a strong current). Anyone have thoughts?
