Hey everyone im Jesse. I live in elk grove village a suburb of chicago. I am very intrested in freediving. I sort of have experience with the dynamic apnea thing from some of the training I went through in the military. My PR is a 60m. I planned on going for a 75m but I got injured in training before I could. But im ok now so im ready to get back into it. Im not sure if there is any place around here to test what depth I can reach. That would be sweet though.

Jesse,
There are a few people around you, some who even post on here. Maytag and FreediveChicago are the first two who come to mind. I live a couple hours away from you, in Madison, but make it to the Milwaukee are to dive Lake Michigan quite a bit. There are a few things going on to try your hand at depth. The first I should mention is a little thing called Freedive-A-Palooza that I put together every July- just do a search on here for it and you'll find out all about it. We have a New Year's dive/ carp shoot coming up next week. I also have an Ice (free)dive palanned for February- IF we ever get any ice. I call it Freeze-A-Palooza and you can look up past threads on that also. If your intetrested, Chicago has a very active underwater hockey group that you may want to join- they train 3-4 nights a week. Otherwise, there are various quarries and other freedivers in the area that you could dive with. Welcome to DB. Jon

jessemc - I assume that by now You have found out about that rather large lake that should be located somewhere near chicago. I'm sure that'll be deep enough for a first try.
Welcome to DB

Hi Jesse!
I live 15 minutes from Elk Grove Village and I train dynamic at YMCA in Des Plaines, pool is preetty deep and lifeguards are fine with monofin. Recently I've meet two freedivers from Chicago the same way You are trying, we went to the pool together and we had some good training, I did my PB. One of them is FreediveChicago like someone told You before. We are going do do more swimming/diving together so stay in touch. I am at the pool 2-3 days a week so email me if You feel like going. If You want to go deep then Wisconsin is Your destination, I am going there for the ice diving in february(no worries winter is coming, there is still a lot of ice to come) Here is not so deep, Lake Michigan is shallow along the coast line,You need a boat to get far out (or kayak like FreediveChicago) Nearest quarry in Kankakee is around 80ft deep but Lake Wazee should be deep enough for You... Hope You join us, Peter Last edited by nostres; January 4th, 2007 at 15:39. |
