Hi all
Finally got time to put an introduction onto the forum. Thought I better introduce myself as I am currently training to become a freediving instructor with Deeperblue, and have probably met some of you already. The names Brian, and I live in a small village just outside of Ayr up on the west coast of Scotland. Always looking for freediving buddies to dive with, and if anyone has any good freediving sites anywhere in Scotland please let me know, as I have only scuba dived up here. Also know where we could hire a lane of a 50m pool if anyone fancies practicing any static or dynamic. Hope to meet all of you on the bottom somewhere (just not all at the same time). Brian |

I know Ayr. My wife was brought up just outside of Glasgow. Travelled around that way a bit. Have friends and relatives still live thereabouts. My son is currently at uni in Paisley. About as far as you can get from me down in Guernsey. Anyway welcome aboard mate.
Dave

Hi all
Thanks for the greetings. I feel like a part of the family. Answers: Suit - 6mm open cell neoprene internal with a fabric on the outside, suit working really well, just got to get some socks and gloves out of the same material, and things will be toasty Bagpipes - I am afraid I am an englishman living in Scotland, so I wouldnt know which end to blow up, and I thing I have got enough on my plate getting all the stuff to become instructor, let alone learning how to play the bagpipes - I am sure their will be a law against the english playing the bagpipes anyway. Will keep you all up to date with the progress on the instructor level, and if anyone fancies coming up to help me find some good sites up hear, please feel free. Brian |

First of all greetings to everyone- also new to this forum!
Brian- I've also been subjected to the harsh Scottish climates and cold waters, and always been a bit reluctant to get into the water ever since I first arrived here 2 years ago. I'm also living on the West coast- Oban. There are many great dives round these parts- the wreck of the SS Breda in Ardmucknish Bay (<30m), serpullid reefs in Loch Creran (about 15m), Bonawe Quarry. All harness amazing floral and faunal species. If you're in the mood for an ambitious dive head to the Outer Hebrides- there are some great dives round Lewis. I've done a bit of freediving myself and am quite keen on spearfishing back at home (Malta). I mostly freedive here though my technique is starting to slacken a bit due to lack of practice! I'm starting a HSE Scientific diving course this September. Would be great to meet up with someone keen on freediving- not all that common here! Regarding the pool, there's one in the Atlantis leisure center here in Oban that might not see much use during certain times of the day. I really hope to start practicing once again and would be good to share the burden of humiliation of wearing huge fins in a public pool with someone else ![]() All very best Karl |

Hi Brian,
Hows it going buddy, this is my first post on here too. I think blaiz is right, as you live up in Scotland you should learn to play the bag pipes...under the water and be on the next Britains got talent show LOL See you at Vobster next weekend. My monofin has not arrived yet and have not received word on when it is coming either so Kalymnos might be my first ever open water with a monofin...no pressure then! |
