Hello there! I have been diving for about 20 years, and in Alaska for about five. I am looking for other divers in Alaska and around the world that have speared anything over 40lbs., that would be willing to share the logistics of how to keep from losing something that big with me. I went to Homer last weekend with some friends to spear halibut, but didn't find any in water shallow enough to dive. I have shot several ling, and that is great, but the halibut is the next challenge. any imput??

Hey Gary,
Where are you? I'm in Ketchikan. I can give some advice related to shooting larger game fish (i.e. tuna) from my experience working in southern California that may apply if you don't find any experts out there with a definitive Halibut answer. Jess |
