Hello from somerset, UK!

Hi there guys and gals, thought i'd join this forum, looks great!

I'm just starting out spearfishing, i have done a very small amount of freediving around cornwall and involved in lots of other watersports, other than that i'm a fairly fresh newbie!

I have just bought a lovely mares cyrano 970, whilst it's prob overkill for UK conditions the price was unbeatable, the pneumatic system really appeals to me and thankfully you can adjust the power or use the reduced power switch, i also purchased a mares explorer 35 for hole shooting when the cyrano is too big and powerful.

Got all the other equipment but i'm looking to get a new wetsuit (seac sub race flex 400?) as i currently use a 3mm cheapo suit.

My experience with freediving is very limited so i'll be looking for tips and advice, i know basics as of now.
One thing to my advantage starting out is i've got a good set of lungs, i can static breath hold for over 3 minutes never having any type of training, so prob gives me somewhere under 2 minutes per dive at present.

At the end of june i'm heading down portland area for my first go at spearfishing with some friends!

Welcome to DB! You can use the search function to check out the Dorset and Devon threads - lots of spearos you can potentially hook up with! Portland is a great area for spearing and you might just bump into some of the reprobates that post here! Good luck.

Hello Amphibian and welcome to DB.
From Somerset you say, well me to, where abouts in Somerset are you?
Portland is a fantastic place to spear but just be careful of the tides around the island as they can get a bit funky a bit quick.
Never know we might see you down there sometime.

Spaniard me old mucker when you coming down to get wet and drunk? How about the next BBQ???

Mr Podge, just finalising, hopefully, a new job so when that's done and dusted I shall look forward to getting down your way. When is next BBQ?

Re: Hello from somerset, UK!

Not to sure yet mate, hopefully not this weekend as my head still hurts from the last one.
I think Sir, Glowworm said sometime towards the middle of next Month.
I’ll let you know for sure as soon as I know.

Re: Hello from somerset, UK!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
Podge, i live near burnham-on-sea, so you can see why although living a stones throw from the sea i havn't been spearfishing here, visibility is 4 inches on a good day.

I guess i'm in a fairly central place to go to various decent spearfishing sites, south coast and wales etc.

Burnham-on Sea next to Weston-super-mud, yes mate you need to travel a bit.
At least the motorway is right by you so anywhere you decide to try won’t take you long to get there.

Lol, welcome to DB, as you can see, from these two sterling examples of members, nearly everything indeed on DB involves liquid. Some is just amber, and drunk, copiously!

It's a great place though and it's obvious why, with members like these.
