Sharks In The Med??????

i went spearfishing in the med last weekend, normally i never take into account the shark factor when im in the med, i am always more attentive for sharks in the red sea. we caught about 6 or 7 groupers in the 3-6 KG range, the weird thing is that within 3 hours of diving we saw 4 sharks!!! 3 of them were guitar sharks (totally harmless more like stingrays), the 4th shark was a grey shark , i left the water at that point, i was too far out and my buddy wasnt close, it just felt weird, i felt that the safest thing is to exit the water, no use stringing fis with a shark around, i then signaled for my buddy to gt out as well, anyone had this same eprience in the med before ??

Marwan, I have yet to have had the luck but I think the season has something to do with it. April is when A LOT of sharks migrate to here so maybe your area is on the migration route/target as well.

i dont know michael, you might be right, i just never heard of the migrating pattern for sharks, i checked the website above from trux though, which i must say is quite concerning,
its good that i did not have any fish on the stringer at that time, otherwise i would have been really nervous.

I have had an encounter with a shark once...(Gibraltar).
The spanish guys overhere tell me they see occasionally...anyways, I was scared s*******ss!!!

i was fishing on the north coast about 150 km east of the libyan border, very good viz plenty of fish mainly groupers

Last GWS fatality here in Tuscany (central-western Italy) was 15 years ago: an engineer who was checking some kind of pipeline underwater, if I remember well. One man eaten in 15years is acceptable statistics, but the trouble is that now we're into the subsequent 15years term!

--Me I'm totally ingorant about sharks, and happy to be so. Just saw one grey shark in the Jonian three years ago and...well...on that day I gave up fising for beach volley ;-)
