    Hi Richard and Bill,

Attached are two images. The first is of the data on WSB otolith morpholgy or weight vs the age of the fish. The otolith weight (mass) is a better predictor of age than any measurements taken on the otolith. This info will be part of the paper on age and growth of WSB that I'll be submitting so I ask that you please not post this image on your website until after the paper has been accepted for publication. The other image is of a sectioned sagittal otolith from a 8.77 year old known-age WSB. I placed yellow dots on the image so you can see the annuli (rings) that are counted. They're pretty obvious when the otoliths are prepared in the manner that we have worked out. We would section the otolith from Bill's fish in the same manner and include it in our analysis of this study. I would also send you a picture of the otolith similar to the one attached.

Bill, can you send me a photo of the picture you mentioned to me over the phone showing the length of the fish and the tape measure? I would also like to stop by Lyons and O'Haver to check out the mold of your WSB and look at the insides of the fish that they removed to determine the sex. As I mentioned on the phone I live about 5 min from their factory. Do you have a contact there? Also I was wondering if you had any plans for the guts? One of the next studies that we are planning is to determine when WSB become sexually mature and their fecundity. This type of work involves collecting gonads from various sizes and sexes of WSB. The gonads from your fish would also be a valuable contribution to this study.

A short while ago I got a PM from a friend asking what I thought of this new shaft he found online. It was a SalviMar Torsion 2 (Salvimar home page). I had never seen it, but I was curious. I loved the idea and how low profile it was. I started searching for information right away. I contacted SalviMar directly to see who sells the Torsion 2. It turned out that they do not have a direct US distributor. OMER distributes some of their stuff, but they are looking for a US distributor for the...

I found an e-mail address for Mr Flood and sent him the following:

I recently recieved a reply from you about spearfishing in Illinois. You referenced Parts 110 and 810 of the Administrative Rules. I don't have access to these and I can not find them online. So I will have to use my own common sence in replying to what I have in this letter.

First you say these parts statutorily prohibit spearfishing. That is exactly why I feel things need to change! The are prohibiting...

I'm going to start writing an article to be published by whomever will print it. I have a few places in mind to send it to start with. This is a rough draft and a place to gather thoughts for this article.

It seems Illinois is intent on protecting people from themselves. There is less and less freedom in the US in general, but Illinois seems to want to lead this charge.

I decided to see what can be done to change the view of diving and spearfishing in Illinois....

First the day started off scary and got worse. My daughter is driving and need to get so many hours in order to get her driers license. So she is driving me 3.5 hours north to WI. That is scary enough. About an hour north a 12 point buck trots across the road. She did good she got slowed down and did not hit the deer. But she did not keep looking and the 8 point that was following almost put it's rack in her door. Everything turned out fine. My 90cm gun has a reel, I may have been able to take the...

I got lured up to WI by the promise of wish. Jon sent out a PM and I was certain it would be a good day for getting fish in the freezer. I climbed into bead and looked at the clock, the alarm was set. My wife wakes me and points to the clock at 5:45....I was going to leave the house at 5:00. She set the alarm to get my daughter up, not me! Gahhhh.... I scramble and PM unirdna to let him know I'm a little late. My intent was to get to unirdna's about 8:30 - 9:00, but I got there at 9:30.
