Once again the UKZN under water club in conjunction with The Dive Factory are hosting a spearo course. This is primarily aimed at the novice but will appeal to all. There is also the option of attending a breathhold training course on the saturday. See attached poster for details.

Met some interesting people, some have been travelling the 3rd world for 2 years volunteering to help local communities. They have given up the comfort of Holland, Australia and wherever to give something back to a world that they were fortunate enough to not have been born into. Although we tend to think of indigenous people as living a simple and idyllic life this is not often the case. Poverty and hunger are the dominant forces in their lives.

We were a long way from civilisation, but sometimes I wondered as most people who spend time in paradise do, if we really live in a civilised world. No electricity means no bad news, no rate changes, no yankee presidential politics, just sun, sand and loads of coconuts. Utopia, I think not, people here are very poor and have suffered for many years. The rich live in secluded aloofness, whilst the poor eek out a living off coconuts and matape, a vile tasting root plant which is a mixture of potato...

Well here I sit in the middle of Praia Da Tofo half way up the Mozambique coastline. It’s beautiful, but the journey here has taken nearly four days. It all started with a slow drive to Jhb to meet the BBC film crew at O.R. Tambo and to collect the myriad of cases in every shape and size. Of course half the luggage ended up in some other country and we were forced to endure another night in some posh hotel, which all sound great but spending two days cruising the airport looking for lost baggage...

Well I have been lucky enough to land a skippers contract at Cassa Barry, which is a really nice lodge in Tofo Mozambique. I will spend three weeks working three hours a day driving a nationakl Geographic team around whilkstthey film Manta's and other creatures of the deep.
Is that lucky or what. In between the fun I can put some hard work into some more time on compressed air and some spear fishing and perhaps work on my birthday suit tan. I plan tO take a few sticks as well and...
