Re: problem: position of the arms

Start by keeping your head straight and your arms tucked into your sides first, if you manage this then your arms can be your next step. Swim a few laps on top of the water with your snorkel and your arms stretched infront like you would when underwater as a warm up to each session the surface gives you a 'line' to follow, also just lie ontop of the water with your arms stretched out to get your body used to being in that position. If you can get someone with a camera to do a video so you can see what your doing wrong it will also help alot. The stetches ect also helps its all about being comfortable in a position.

Re: problem: position of the arms

i don't know if this helps.. but i use resistence training to help with keeping my arms and head tucked properly.

i also swim with my arms at my side usually. then again i'm not swimming for speed.

when i do sprints i notice that my yoga and pilates training really helps.

i also practice above water keeping my arms and head streamlined.

any exercise that will limber up your shoulder blades should do.. i've noticed yoga really helps me.

hope it helps.

Re: problem: position of the arms

Hi ginooo,

You are just getting old enough so that the joints are getting a little stiff. Practice stretching to loosen them up. Yoga is good. Simply doing dynamic 2-3 days a week will make it much easier in 6 months or so. One trick, use the thumb of one hand to hook over the outside of the palm of the other hand. Once this is done, you can relax most of the muscles in the shoulders and arms and maintain a slightly bent elbow position. With pactice, it gets easier an easier to straighten the elbows.

Re: problem: position of the arms

Hi. I'll try in my poor English

To keep Your arms ahead easily, try to rotate your elbows inside ( toward the ears ) when you have the arms in position.
You'll find your hands rotate too, let upper hand take the lower.
At this point you can lean the arms just a little upper the ears to obtain a more relaxed position.

To have better position without to be over stressed , you have to swim and swim in this position on surface
or having 4-5 strokes underwater, then one breath and again 4-5 strokes underwater
3 times 100 or 200 mt at time
