Just a quick question here: Wouldn`t adding stiffness on the sides of the blade take away the v-bend?
About a year ago I broke my specialfins dolphin mono. Just the other day I cut away what was broken and I was left with a pretty small blade:-) So I thought I would make it stiffer to compensate. I put fibreglassreinforcements close to the footpockets. Maybe on half the lenght of the blade. Just straight across the blade. It looked pretty ok, but the fin didn`t work at all!! The v-bend was extreme. I`ll try to put some fibreglass along the sides. (ps. this is just a project to learn how monos work) |

Gazoooks! Dave, I had no idea you were a non-human! Okay, maybe your upsidedown face gives it away.
Personally I would like to see a Chen Bin married with a Hyperfins footpocket system and feet relative to fin placement. Chen Bin does not V-bend at all. But probably the angle is not great enough for optimal dynamic swims. I also think that the Chen Bin is changing my technique (again). I have actually been diving with it lately (taking a break from no fins while the warm water is here so I can wear it with bare feet). What I also like about the Chen Bin is it doesn't feel like it has any "dead spots" during a stroke cycle. Mind you, it prefers a higher frequency stroke, and is not perfectly streamlined while sinking (less angle). So it's no bad at all for FRC and fast ascents. By the way, when I talk about fin performance, I'm talking about ascents, surface swimming, and dynamic. What I don't like about it is that although I've loosened the footpocket strap again, the footpocket is not that comfortable. I don't have Chinese feet! So it's still a fin for finswimming, really. I asked Chen Bin to make a freediver version more along the lines of a Hyperfin and he quite gruffly said that his was better for the pool!

Ok, hold on a minute,
this is where me being blonde kicks in! what on earth is going on in that pictue of Dave, aside from some serious V-bend and footpockets that look like they are about to fold, how on earth did you get your head in that position or am i just missing something here? and no i'm not gonna sit here looking like a retard trying to turn my head 180 degrees and try to pull that off. someone please explain. one very confused DivingDane????????????????????????? P.S will post pics of my fin when it gets here, hopefully Friday. fingers crossed.

Interestingly I don't notice a dead area with my hard waterway nemo either - there is play in the footpockets but the blade cycle seems solid.Curious that the hyper fin feels like it has dead spots, but is rockingly faster.

Yes, hard to quantify feel vs. performance. The Waterway creates a lot of drag though, so the non-dead area feeling may be a trick of the senses.
What we need is a finswimmer android who can be programmed to swim in different styles on demand and thus we can finally see which fin is better for what style of diving! Personally, I think the programmers (oh yes! there would need to be several) would have a hell of a time writing a program that would flip the android's face around - but I'm sure they could some way to imitate nature (Dave).

Interesting you should mention this, my aquapscyhotronic friend, I took the fin to the pool for the first time today. I was able to keep going for the full 50 minute permissible period - doing about 50 25 meter lengths. About 15 minutes in I thought my feet might explode but noticed they did not hurt if I kept swimming - so I reduced my breathe-ups, which was no problem since I seemed not to be getting tired. Kicks for 25 meters are down by about 1/3 and I'm going really fast - I don't recall ever having felt turbulence rippling the skin on my shoulders with my waterway Nemo. I did moderate sprints - because I wanted maximum swim time and minimal recoveries. I know the nemo and hyperfin are not the same class but this fin is definitely MUCH faster and MUCH easier.
It about five minutes for my feet to reconfigure into walking mode again but the pain was mostly gone by the end of the session. Dave? Nature? Dave? ..What are you doing Dave? Coincidence or conspiracy? |

I've done two long open water sessions with my new hyperfin in the past couple of days. Swimming a good long ways each day - maybe a mile the first day. Two hours is not a problem. The only discomfort I have is when the sock scrunches my toes - I need to find some smoothskin out socks that will slide in better with lube.
Yesterday I had a great dive near a breakwall here that has a lot of life this time of year. The carp were circling me during a breath up and, as I turned to watch them, seemed preoccupied with following my fin. I'm so much faster with this fin that my dive buddy cannot keep up if I head for shore with a series of moderately paced dives. Even with breathe-ups between, he's still hard pressed to stay with me with continuous surface swimming. The big coup is the comfortable footpockets. That was my major concern going to and open-heel fin and Max did a fabulous job. |

Well By triton Hyper fin finally arrived! Wooohooo!
![]() it arrived well protected and in a monobag (ordered). i was originally expecting a fin with the wave shaped trailing edge like Salibandy so was looking forward to opening up the package, however i was greeted with a fin with a straight edge (same fin as Fondueset) but with a soft blade so a little disappointed however i dont think its going to matter, so i will reserve my jundgement till i have used it (tomorrow) no doubt it will be better than the current model 2 MD waterway i am using so happy days. main thingmis the fin is in perfect condition and the footpockets fit! i tried them on during work (got a couple of very confused looks when i was trying to get it on) it fits VERY snug so i'm glad i opted for a slighly larger size. tomorrow the true test, will let you know how it goes. Regards DD

Well, what I do is upload the images to ImageShack. They'll give you the link for you to post on forums.
I did that because I didn't know how to use the forum's media attaching functions too. Haha.
