South Louisiana/Mississippi

I've been thinking about getting into freediving or SCUBA lately, and leaning more towards freediving as I think I would enjoy it more. I currently live in Baton Rouge, LA and would like to know if there are any freedivers (and potential dive buddies) in the area, and any places to go diving that could be done in a day trip and without a boat.

I haven't heard much about freediving this stretch of the Gulf, only SCUBA out on the rigs.

Thanks to the Mississippi, I don't think there is much freediving near shore in your area. However the rigs are fabulous freediving. Rigdvr is a DB member and fan, but he hasn't posted recently. Try PMing him or look in some other forums, maybe spearboard. Try the search function for diving in Louisiana or oil rig diving. There are several other freedivers up there, but I don't remember who.

You can sometimes freedive the rigs. I like to when its calm and the snapper are about 15 ft down. Im trying to get my website up and going. You can post a NEED BUDDY on my site....im trying to get all louisiana spearfishermen on there....please join and start posting!!

yes we freedive here, for some of us its all we do. We have formed a new dive club that is just freedivers from MS, and LA. There are some really good divers from this area, were just outnumbered.
