Diving Sucks in New England!

... or at least that is what I hear anyway from some of the [perhaps] lesser informed.

The water is too mucky they say... and so, OK, maybe it isn't the sterile clear water of Florida, but then fish and other interesting things don't like sterile water anyway, right?

I'm of course talking about the ocean now, because we all know that the fresh water lakes have their own issues.

Part of the problem is that I have yet to hear from the truly informed divers and swimmers in the New England area (probably because they are all currently too busy out enjoying themselves in the water to sit here and plunk about on the keyboard).

Anyway, here's my deal: I could care less about fish. I don't really enjoy torturing them, although I must admit that I do love to eat them (so please keep catching them).

Instead, I am all about swimming (ideally really fast with the help of some good fins). I am also in search of a good place to do fin swimming in the New England area. Ideally, I would be swimming right now with a monofin attached to my body, but I am finding it extremely difficult to satisfy my dreams these days (what else is new I guess?).

Rumor has it that Narragansett Beach in Rhode Island is a relatively interesting beach swimming location. Anyone familiar with this area?

Are there any recommendations and/or reviews on a diver shop in the area called Narragansett Pier Dive Shop?

Let me know if you know ASAP! Otherwise wait for my own review.

Thanks

-dav0

p.s. Sorry for the misleading [and hopefully eye-grabbing] Title, but I am getting desperate because I still have no diving equipment (nothing dating from this millenium anyway) and now my crew wants to leave in the morning for a beach encounter! New flash - unlike some people I do not fancy sitting my ass on a beach to sun tan; like a shark, I need to swim to stay alive!!!
