Well Tone, this probably isn't the forum for it but I suppose a quick run down won't hurt. Phuket is a good inexpensive place to holiday and the food!!!!!!!!!!! Our appartment in a 4 star resort costs $640AU for 9 nights including breakfast for 3. We got a really good guide a couple of days, Mr. Sam and he showed us around Phuket one day for about $50AU and the second day for $180AU took us to a fishing village built on stilts in Pang Na Bay (about 1.5hrs drive) then we boarded a long tail boat and went to a floating fishing village, had a look around, then onto James Bond Island (supposedly they filmed one of the movies there). When we got back to the fishing village our skipper's wife had a beautiful lunch waiting (see pic) She actually brought out crayfish after I snapped a photo. On the way back we stopped at a huge limestone cave with 1000s of monkeys around the entrance and a budist temple inside (straight out of jungle book). Stopped at lots of roadside stalls and bought strange and beautiful fruit and some more familiar. We did heaps more but can't fit all in here. I'm always the one with the camera so it's my girls in all the photos.

Thx for sharing One, I was in Phuket a few years past (travelled most of Thailand for 45days) so the pix bring back some fond memories (we took the same tour in Phuket)...the people are great and the culture is amazing...and the food another dimension! I hope to revisit again soon and perhaps shoot some fish....thx again for sharing , you look to have a great family...Cheers!

Not sure about shooting fish in Thailand. They had live baramundi and estuary cod in many resturants and they were all about the size of the one on the table in the pic above (pretty small). Below are a couple pics of me with the same species in Australia (much bigger).

Hey Onefish,
Great work on the thread, very detailed. I used to work for the Darwin Aquaculture Centre...so you probably know some of the dodgy crew I used to fish with . I'm keen to find out with all this work what you really think of the performance improvement with your new setup?! I've seen Greekdivers vid's and they seem pretty impressive, but still not quite convinced. |

I really, really like you set up and starting to do a something along the same line with my cyrano1100 now and need some advice later. One thing that concerned me about your set-up that looks very heavy duty (i.e. why else go for slip tip)....is your snap swivel - although I can't tell how big it really is. I just came across this link and it talks about how snap swivels are rated when the force is directly opposite the swivel, but if your line slides up when fighting a big one, then there it can potentially unclip with not much pressure at all. Freediving and Spearfishing Technical Tips Thought it could be of interest. Cheers, Cam |
